For an organised trip to the far southern wilayas, Algeria issues a visa on arrival — called a "regularisation visa" — valid for no more than 30 days. It replaces the consular visa; it is not added to it.
You may be able to get a tourist visa on arrival at some airports in Algeria if the majority of your travel is in the south of the country. You should have a confirmed reservation with an approved local travel agency.This confirmation comes from a government source updated on July 24, 2026. The Algerian announcements describing the scheme call it "exceptional and temporary" — which is why we keep re-checking.

Two official sources do not say exactly the same thing: Brussels lists these wilayas, while the Embassy in Tokyo writes "all the tourist wilayas of the far south". We publish the enumerated list and flag the gap rather than settle it on their behalf.
